Fuengirola stretches along one of the most continuous seafronts on the Costa del Sol, eight kilometres of coastline and seven beaches, every one of them Blue Flag certified, the only municipality in Spain where that holds true across its entire coast. What began as a fishing village has grown into a lively, cosmopolitan town of around 85,000 residents, roughly 25 kilometres from Málaga Airport by road. Life here moves at a sociable, accessible pace: mornings on the promenade, afternoons at the market or by the water, evenings among a wide mix of restaurants and cultures. Introducing Fuengirola

Seafront Living: A long seafront promenade runs along the town, lined with beach bars, restaurants and boats resting on the sand. In 2026 every one of Fuengirola’s beaches flies the Blue Flag, and each has an area adapted for people with reduced mobility.

Culture & Heritage: Sohail Castle, a 10th-century fortress at the mouth of the river, is also a venue for concerts and cultural events. The Museo de la Ciudad, the Casa de la Cultura and a municipal programme of concerts, theatre and exhibitions, much of it free, keep the calendar full, and an urban art route of murals and sculptures crosses the town.

Festivals & Social Life: The Virgen del Carmen festival in Los Boliches in July and the Feria del Rosario from 6 to 12 October mark the year. More than 150 nationalities live in Fuengirola, and traditional taverns sit alongside international cuisine.

Everyday Life: Everything in town is within a 20-minute walk. Stroll the Sohail river park with its 800-metre navigable canal, visit Bioparc Fuengirola, or settle in for fried fish and sardines on the spit by the sea.

Connections

Getting Around: About 20 minutes by car from Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport (AGP). The Cercanías C1 commuter line links Fuengirola with the airport, Torremolinos, Benalmádena and Málaga city.

Explore: Golf courses, a marina and diving and sailing schools are close by, with riding, hiking and cycling routes inland around Mijas.
